Saints vs Rams Betting: NFC Conference Championship predictions

The Saints vs Rams betting public seem to be split down the middle, as wagering volumes are running about 50-50 ahead the NFC Championship game Sunday.

The Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints square off with a trip to Super Bowl 53 on the line and the Saints currently a 3.5-point home favorite, according to Bovada Sportsbook.

New Orleans got past the Philadelphia Eagles 20-14 last week as an 8.5-point favorite. By failing to cover against the Eagles the Saints have now lost four straight against the spread, and they’re 1-5 ATS in their last six games.

Will the Saints Cover the Point Spread?

At home, the Saints are 7-1 SU and 4-4 ATS in their last eight games.  In the playoffs New Orleans have won seven straight at home, but they’re only 3-4 ATS in those wins. They have similar results as a playoff favorite with a 6-2 record SU and a 2-6 mark ATS in their last eight.

NFL bettors are concerned by the Saints 2-9 ATS record as a playoff favorite since 1980. But they have the feel-good factor of Drew Brees going back to the Super Bowl if they are looking to lean on the Saints to cover the spread here.

Can the Rams Win as a Road Underdog?

The Rams moved on last week by defeating the Dallas Cowboys 30-22 as a 7-point favorite. Los Angeles has now won three straight both SU and ATS, but they were only 4-4 ATS on the road this season.

This is the first time this season the Rams have been listed as the underdog. Entering the season Los Angeles was an awful 2-12 SU and 2-11-1 ATS in their last 14 games as the underdog. In the postseason the Rams are 3-6 SU and ATS in their last nine on the road, and as an underdog they’re 3-5 SU and ATS in their last eight.

The Rams and Saints met up in New Orleans in Week 9 and the Saints won 45-35 as a 2-point underdog. The last 30 matchups between the Rams and Saints are split evenly down the middle at 15-15 SU and ATS. However, in New Orleans the Saints have won thee straight against the Rams both SU and ATS.

In the last five NFC title games the home team is a perfect 5-0 SU. In the last six the favorite has gone 5-1 SU.

For total bettors the last four NFC Championships have all gone over the total and in Week 9 the Rams and Saints easily went over the posted total of 57, according to BetOnline.ag
