Super Bowl 50 Prop Bets – Coin Toss, First Score Betting Odds

Some of the most common Super Bowl props available everywhere each year involve the coin toss, which has been a nearly even bet in the first 49 years of the big game.

Not only can you wager on whether the coin will land heads or tails, but you can also bet on which team wins it, will the team winning it also win the game, and will the team calling it end up being correct.

Each side on all of those coin toss props requires laying $105 to win $100, or -105, and past history shows tails has a slight edge at 25-24.

This postseason leading up to Super Bowl 50 there was some debate about whether or not the coin actually needs to flip completely. The answer is no, as the Green Bay Packers found out prior to overtime in their 26-20 road loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs.

With the heads side heavier than the tails side of the coin, many believe the latter has a better chance of landing up and winning the toss than the former. But as the results show, it is literally a coin flip proposition.

The Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl coin toss each of the past two years with tails coming up and split those games against the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots.

Prior to that, heads was the winner in five straight Super Bowls, and the team that won the toss went 3-2 straight up and 4-1 against the spread in the big game.

The first score of the game is also a very popular Super Bowl prop and features multiple angles as well. For example, the Carolina Panthers are solid favorites to not only win the game but also score the first points at -145 compared to +115 (bet $100 to win $115) for the Denver Broncos, who are the underdogs.

Wagering on the team that scores first to win the game requires laying -165 compared to +135 on that team losing.

Additional betting options on the first score include whether the first scoring play will be a touchdown (-145) or field goal/safety (+115) and the exact outcome, such as a Carolina touchdown, which is a +150 favorite, with a Denver touchdown the +225 second choice.

Finally, you can bet on what each team’s first scoring play will be, with the touchdown favored over field goal/safety for both the Panthers and Broncos.
