Buffalo throws open the doors of the new Highmark Stadium with the kind of opponent the moment deserves: a 1-0 Detroit team with Super Bowl expectations of its own. Both offenses lit up the scoreboard in Week 1, and this cross-conference primetime opener carries the highest total on the board for a reason. Two elite quarterbacks, two explosive skill groups, and a short week that favors the rested home side.

The Bills arrive healthy and confident. Josh Allen carved up the NFL's best 2025 defense in Houston, accounting for four touchdowns, and Buffalo's only real question marks are rotational — safety Cole Bishop, back Ty Johnson, and lineman T.J. Sanders are all questionable but non-essential to the game plan. Getting linebacker Terrel Bernard cleared matters more, and he's a go.

Detroit's situation is thornier. The Lions needed overtime and a missed two-point conversion to survive New Orleans, and their secondary got torched late — a problem when Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph are already out and D.J. Reed is questionable. Worse, both starting interior/edge protectors are gone: right tackle Blake Miller and left guard Christian Mahogany are ruled out, leaving Jared Goff exposed against a Buffalo front that can pressure with four.

The chess match on the field tilts Buffalo. Detroit will lean hard on Jahmyr Gibbs as a runner and receiver to take pressure off a patchwork line, but that only works if the game stays close. If Allen jumps out early against a leaky Detroit back end, the Lions are forced to throw behind a compromised front — exactly the script Buffalo wants. Weather is a non-factor: roughly 70 degrees, calm winds, and no meaningful rain expected in Orchard Park.

This has shootout written all over it, but the cleaner, healthier, better-rested team is laying a very reasonable number at home in a marquee spot.
