Patriots vs Chargers Gambling Preview, Upset Prediction

BD

January 10, 2019

Betting against the New England Patriots at home has been a great way to lose money in recent years, but many LA Chargers gamblers are hoping that trend reverses on Sunday.

The AFC Divisional Playoff round game sees the host Patriots as 4-point favorites (per BetOnline.ag) against a Charger team that has won outright the past five times as a road underdog this season. Check out the Chargers vs Patriots gambling preview and prediction.

Can the Patriots Cover the Spread?

Everything points to the Patriots doing what they usually do at home – win and cover. In their past 15 games as home favorites, they are 15-0 and 12-3 ATS. Maybe that trend doesn’t follow them to the playoffs? Think again. In their past eight as home playoff chalk, they are 8-0 SU and 6-2 ATS.

Add in the fact that the Pats are 8-1 SU at home against the Chargers since 1980 and 7-1 SU against them overall since 2005 and you have a recipe for a Patriot cover.

Tom Brady and friends have the experience, they have the cold-weather advantage and they have history on their side. Bet against them at your peril.

Can the Chargers Cover the Spread?

Many bettors actually like the Chargers to win outright here and happily take the +4 points. QB Philip Rivers has been awesome and LA has been a beast as road underdog, winning outright the past five times in this situation. That includes last week’s Wild Card win at Baltimore.

There are lots of Patriot haters hoping this game marks the end of the dynasty, that they lose bad and Brady and Gronk retire. They have struggled in the last few weeks of the season but squeezed enough wins to earn the bye.

With Rivers also nearing the end of his career, this feels like a game where he finally gets the best of Brady and advances to the SFC title game next weekend.

Chargers vs Patriots Gambling Pick

We like the Chargers to reverse history and win outright here Sunday. The four points are a bonus and we will take LA at +4, thank you very much.
