Props Dominate Super Bowl XLIX Betting Odds

The floodgates have officially opened, with dozens of Super Bowl team and player prop bets now available to be wagered on at the top online sportsbooks.

As usual, leading the way are prop bets on the Super Bowl coin toss, with both heads and tails carrying 20/21 odds in NFL online props betting. Both the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks own odds of 20/21 to win the toss, while the odds of the team who wins the coin toss going on to claim the Super Bowl title sit at 20/23.

Also of great interest to both hardcore and fair-weather football fans is betting on the now traditional Gatorade shower. The odds of orange Gatorade being dumped on this year’s winning coach are pegged at 3/2, while yellow sits at 5/2. Clear Gatorade or water are a 3/1 bet, while blue and red are deadlocked at 15/2, and green is a 10/1 longshot.

Another traditional Super Bowl prop bet focuses on the performance of the Dow Jones Industrial Average stock index on the day following Super Sunday. Online sportsbooks are offering odds of 5/7 that the Dow Jones will move upward, while the odds of the index falling are pegged at 1/1.

At Super Bowl XLIX, The Star-Spangled Banner will be sung by Tony-winning actress Idina Menzel, who is a 4/1 Super Bowl betting underdog to forget or omit at least one word in the national anthem, and a 10/13 bet to perform the anthem in less than two minutes, one second.

On the field, the two opposing quarterbacks lead the way in Super Bowl MVP betting, with New England’s Tom Brady getting the nod as a 7/4 favorite followed by Seattle’s Russell Wilson, who sits at 7/2, while Seahawks LB Malcolm Smith, who claimed MVP honors in last year’s Super Bowl, is pegged as a 100/1 longshot to repeat.

Seattle RB Marshawn Lynch, who played a key role in the Seahawks’ thrilling 28-22 come-from-behind victory over the Green Bay Packers last weekend, running for 157 yards and a crucial second-half TD, is once again expected to tear up the turf at the Patriots vs. Seahawks Super Bowl showdown at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Lynch, who sits third in Super Bowl MVP prop betting with odds of 4/1, is a strong 20/27 bet to finish Super Bowl XLIX with OVER 92.5 rushing yards, while the UNDER carries odds of 21/20.

The 28-year-old, who also caught four TD passes during the NFL regular season, is a 4/5 bet to amass OVER 19.5 receiving yards on Super Sunday, and a strong 1/2 bet to score at least one TD in the game.

On the other side of the ball, Patriots LB Jamie Collins is expected to be a defensive force at Super Bowl XLIX, with the online sportsbooks listing Collins as a 4/5 bet to tally OVER 8.5 total tackles and assists in the game, and a 13/4 bet to make at least one interception in the game. Conversely, the odds of Collins failing to record a pick sit at a short 5/9.

The odds that the first turnover of the game will be a fumble sit a 6/5, while an interception carries odds of 2/3, and a bet on no turnovers in the game pays off at 8/1. The total number of turnovers in the game, meanwhile, is pegged at 2.5, with the OVER listed as a 10/13 favorite and the UNDER sporting odds of 1/1.
