NFL Win Total OVER/UNDER Odds Set for the Season Ahead

The loss of wide receiver Jordy Nelson has had a minor impact on the 2015 NFL Win Total for the Green Bay Packers, who are now favored to win less than 11 games according to sportsbooks. After tying for the NFL’s best record a year ago at 12-4, the Packers are -130 (bet $130 to win $100) to finish UNDER 11 this season while a wager on the OVER is worth EVEN money.

Nelson suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday in a preseason game that has teams around the league again questioning how much action key players should see in seemingly meaningless matchups. Whether or not Green Bay will truly be affected by Nelson’s absence in the win column also remains to be seen, as the depth of the team’s receiving corps will definitely be put to the test.

There are four other NFL teams though that tied the Packers for the league’s top mark last season and could have a difficult time reaching that number again in 2015. Like Green Bay, the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Denver Broncos all won their respective divisions by also going 12-4. But only the Seahawks and Patriots made it to the final round of the playoff bracket and met in the Super Bowl where the latter beat the former in one of the most exciting games in recent memory.

This year, Seattle is favored to finish OVER 11 at -130 while New England’s Win Total remains off the board due to the current four-game suspension for quarterback Tom Brady. The other two teams that won 12 games are not necessarily expected to repeat the feat with lower posted Win Totals, although the Cowboys are currently sitting at 9.5 OVER -130 and the Broncos are slightly higher at 10 OVER -130.

Both Dallas and Denver should face more serious competition from other teams within their divisions, which means they could end up finishing UNDER their Win Totals. The Cowboys lost 2014 NFL rushing champion DeMarco Murray to the Philadelphia Eagles, their NFC East rivals whose Win Total is also listed at 9.5 OVER -130.

Meanwhile, the Broncos have to deal with the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers in the AFC West as they try to win the division for the fifth straight season. The Chiefs are listed at 8.5 OVER -150 and the Chargers at 8 OVER -150, meaning bettors expect both of them to finish with winning records even if they do not make the playoffs, something each accomplished in 2013.

Another team that fell just short of 12 wins last year but is expected to be a top Super Bowl contender this season is the Indianapolis Colts. After totaling 11 wins for three consecutive seasons with quarterback Andrew Luck, the Colts are favored to top that in 2015. Indy’s Win Total is listed at 11 OVER -130, and it can only help that the team added veteran running back Frank Gore and wide receiver Andre Johnson in the offseason.
