NFL Preseason Week 3 Betting Lines: Broncos, Seahawks Headline Board

Week 3 of the NFL preseason arrives with a pair of teams on the board favored by five points. That may not seem like much, but for the preseason that’s a pretty big spread. The two teams the oddsmakers have favored by five points this week are the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos.

The Seahawks are home to the Dallas Cowboys this week. The Cowboys have been notoriously bad in the preseason in recent years, but so far this preseason they’ve covered the spread in both of their games. Last week Dallas was listed as a pick’em and they rolled over the Miami Dolphins 41-14. Both of the Cowboys’ preseason games have gone OVER the posted total this season, which is also against the trends as in their previous 12 games they had posted only one OVER result.

Seattle was a 2.5-point favorite versus the Minnesota Vikings last week but lost 18-11. In their last eight games as a preseason favorite the Seahawks are 4-4 SU and 3-5 ATS. They’re also 4-1 UNDER in their last five.

The Broncos are also at home this week against the Los Angeles Rams. Denver in 5-2 ATS in their last seven preseason contests but last week they lost to the San Francisco 49ers 31-24 as a 6-point favorite.

The Rams are 2-0 SU so far in the preseason, but they have failed to cover at 0-1-1 ATS. Last week they edged the Kansas City Chiefs 21-20 as a 1-point favorite. Los Angeles now stands at 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 preseason games.

Will this be the week we finally see Tom Brady take the field when the New England Patriots take on the Carolina Panthers as a 3.5-point underdog? The signs seem to point to no after Brady missed practice this week. Brady hasn’t seen any action yet in the preseason as the Patriots get Jimmy Garoppolo ready to start the season at QB. In his two preseason starts, which basically adds up to three quarters of play, Garoppolo has completed 27 of 39 passes for 349 yards with a touchdown.

New England and Carolina met up in the preseason last year and the Patriots came away with a 17-16 win as a 1-point underdog. In their last seven preseason matchups with Carolina the Patriots are 6-1 SU and 6-0-1 ATS.

Also on the schedule this weekend, the New York Giants and New York Jets meet up in their annual preseason tilt. The Giants are a 1-point favorite just like they were last year when they lost to the Jets 28-18. The Jets have dominated the preseason matchup at 15-6 SU and 14-6-1 ATS in their last 21 meetings.

Finally, the winless Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints clash this week, all but guaranteeing one of them will snap their preseason losing streak. The Steelers have dropped four in a row SU and ATS and have only one win SU and ATS in their last nine. New Orleans is on a seven-game losing streak both SU and ATS.
