NFL Preseason Week 2 Betting Lines: Broncos Biggest Favorite on Board

Week 2 of the NFL preseason gets started Thursday night as bettors who stuck with the favorites try to recover from a rough Week 1 of the exhibition slate.

In Week 1 the favorites were a big letdown for bettors, posting an 8-8 record straight up and a 7-9 mark against the spread. Heading into Week 2 the oddsmakers have once again given the home team the nod in every game with the home side favored in all 16 contests.

If you’re looking for the biggest spread available in Week 2 you’ll find it in the San Francisco 49ers at Denver Broncos. The Broncos are a 4-point favorite, and Denver started the preseason last week with a 22-0 win over the Chicago Bears as a pick’em. Mark Sanchez passed for 99 yards with a touchdown and an interception in limited action, while the Denver defense limited the Bears to only 13 total yards of offense.

San Francisco was a 3-point favorite at home against the Houston Texas last week but were upset 24-13.

After last week’s win Denver is 5-1 SU and ATS in their last six preseason games. San Francisco is 1-4 ATS in their last five preseason games and last year they lost to Denver 19-12 as a 6.5-point underdog in the preseason.

The highest-scoring team in Week 1 were the New England Patriots and they get Chicago in Week 2, also as a 4-point home favorite. Last week the Patriots defeated the New Orleans Saints 34-22 as 3.5-point chalk. Tom Brady didn’t play last week, while starting QB Jimmy Garoppolo played the entire first half and passed for 168 yards.

The Los Angeles Rams posted their first win in two decades last week after topping the Dallas Cowboys 28-24 as a 5-point favorite. The win snapped the Rams’ five-game losing streak SU in the preseason, but by failing to cover the spread they’ve lost six in a row ATS.

Rams rookie QB Jared Goff entered the game in the second quarter and passed for 38 yards with an interception before leaving with a sore shoulder on his non-throwing arm. It’s unknown if the injury will keep him out this week when the Rams face the Kansas City Chiefs as a 3-point favorite.

The Chiefs started the preseason with a 17-16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks as a 3.5-point favorite. The loss snapped the Chiefs’ four-game SU winning streak in the preseason and dropped them to 3-2 ATS in their last five. The Chiefs faced the St. Louis Rams in the preseason last year and won 24-17 as a 2.5-point underdog.

Also on tap this week the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers square off with Green Bay a 3-point favorite. The Raiders upset the Arizona Cardinals 31-10 as a 2.5-point underdog last week, while Green Bay edged Cleveland 17-11 as a 1.5-point underdog.

With the win Oakland improved to 3-9 ATS in their last 12 preseason games. Green Bay is 6-2 ATS in their last eight games in the preseason.
