NFL Betting: Week 11 Recap and Betting News

Sunday was a pretty by-the-book day in Week 11 as home teams went 10-2 (straight up). As for the spread, favorites held a slight edge by going 7-5 against the number. Here’s our recap of some of the most important news from Week 11:

The Steelers are Back on the Map

Entering the season, a number of experts thought the Pittsburgh Steelers would be a contender in the AFC. After the Philadelphia Eagles “Revolutionary” performance in Week 1, many experts also figured they’d be a shoe-in to contend.

As it turns out, both teams have had long, winding paths this season but after Sunday, one thing became clear: they’re both back in business.

Those who bet on the NFL have seen the Eagles perform quite inconsistently this season. They were 1-3 at the end of September and 3-5 at the end of October, yet on the strength of three straight wins, they are in first place in the NFC East. With Nick Foles quarterbacking the team, they appear to be a dangerous foe as we get closer to the playoffs. They are now 5-1 in games that Foles starts compared to 1-4 in games with anyone else under center.

As for the Steelers, they were written off months ago. Remember, they started 0-4. However, they have won four of six and are now just one game behind the 5-5 New York Jets for the final playoff spot in the AFC.

The Steelers are a good bet to make the playoffs. Their competition – the Jets, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans – doesn’t have their level of experience or pedigree. Their remaining schedule includes: at Cleveland, at Baltimore, versus Miami, versus Cincinnati, at Green Bay and versus Cleveland. Given how they looked in their 34-24 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday – not only winning straight up but covering the NFL betting odds easily – don’t be surprised if they continue their roll and make the playoffs.

Totals Betting: Overs Roll Again

Hopefully you’ve been reading this section of our weekly recap article. If so, you’d notice that the overs have been killing it this year in the NFL. The same was the case in Week 10 as they went 9-4 heading into the Sunday Nighter. Those who like NFL betting tips should note that only eight teams in the NFL have more unders than overs this season.

Significant Injuries to Note

Jabari Greer, New Orleans Saints

jabari greer

NFL online betting handicappers saw one of the Saints top cornerbacks suffer a gruesome leg injury that is almost certainly going to keep him out the rest of the season. The Saints defense entered the week ranked fifth overall, so this will be a significant blow.

Keenan Allen, San Diego Chargers

Keenan Allen

The Chargers lost yet another receiver on Sunday when rookie wideout Keenan Allen was sidelined. Allen, who was a potential Rookie of the Year candidate and the Chargers leading receiver, appeared on the bench with ice wrapped around his knee.

Stinging NFL Point Spread Loss of the Week…

The Jacksonville Jaguars. Believe it or not, a number of bettors invested in the Jags on the NFL lines after they got their first win of the year last week and were an 8-point home dog on the NFL odds against an Arizona Cardinals team that was just 1-3 on the road this season.

So, if you had the Jags +9, you think you’re looking pretty good when they hold leads of 7-0 and 14-7. Remember, plus the points, you’re up by 16. The only problem is Jacksonville went to sleep after that as the Cardinals scored the final 20 points of the game to win 27-14. Hope you had the Cardinals teased or you lost on the NFL point spread.
